That was about the longest weekend of my life.
Thurs night: got on the internet to search for maps and traffic info.
(had clothes in the car in case of quick bug-out - seeing traffic made me decide to stay)
While on Channel 11's website my computer got attacked by a spyware/hijacker/virus - effectively
disabled for the duration.
Friday 7:10 pm - electricity died.
7:15 pm - first indication of strong wind - yes, the elec died BEFORE the storm hit.
7:20 pm - sunset
7:30 pm - started eating everything in the fridge that might spoil
10:00 pm - started getting re-acquainted with my old guitar
midnight - standing in the street talking to neighbors; light 'misty' rain
Saturday morning - five-egg omelet before they spoil, started looking for an excuse to file a
home-owner's insurance claim
1. section of backyard fence leaning over
still no electricity; started picking up twigs all over the yard.
Saturday afternoon - talking to neighbors; all of us are harrassing Centerpoint Energy about the
fact that our elec went out BEFORE the wind hit.
Saturday night - too hot to sleep, repeated cold showers
Sunday morning - clean up more litter, more cold showers, drove around looking for open store with
ice.
Sunday afternoon - re-hung awning/shade over the gazebo to cut blazing sun; sat in the backyard
playing with sprinkler.
Sunday 5:00 pm - Centerpoint Engineer walks thru neighborhood to survey damage - we all gave him a
piece of our minds about elec going out BEFORE wind came in.
Sunday 7:00 pm - Centerpoint Energy finally gets elec turned back on.
Sunday 11:00 pm - A/C finally cools house enough to sleep
Monday morning - more open stores
Monday evening - restaraunts starting to open; had dinner at Monterrey's Little Mexico
Tuesday 6:00 am - Centerpoint repair crew came back & started to work early - didn't really do
much
Tuesday morning - Randall's Grocery open; stocked up on essentials
Tuesday afternoon - SBC DSL modem & software arrives in the mail
Tuesday 4:30 pm - back online with DSL for $15/month
Now have a huge pile of twigs and leaves on the curb.
