Hello!
We have a few openings left in our "Creating a Culture of Peace (CCP)"
workshop that begins this Sunday, October 2nd, at the SGI center right
here in Houston.
Host and Sponsor: Soka Gakkai International - Houston, 3465 W. Alabama @
Marquart, (open to all persons); FIVE SUNDAYS IN OCTOBER (2, 9, 16, 23,
and 30) from 2PM to 6PM; Cost $50 (with a copy of this email).
Facilitators: Carole Keene, Paul Myers, Cheryl Norris. Contacts Leslie
Golden Shimizu, P.O. Box 300730, Houston, TX 77230;
Leslie at datatudeinc.com, 832-236-0479 or P.Myers at sbcglobal.net at
713-869-6364.
The program and workshop are sponsored by the Decade of Nonviolence -
Houston, as well as by our host organization, the Soka Gakkai
International.
The workshop consists of five modules, four hours each in length, that
are to be held on each Sunday in October.
The five modules follow a logical flow from exploring violence to
planning for action nonviolently:
1. Exploring Violence
2. Exploring Nonviolence
3. Community Building
4. Social Change Movements
5. Action Planning
This is a terrific opportunity to learn and/or enhance your skills in
nonviolent communication and action; as well as to add a variety of
"tools" to your activist toolbox.
More information is available in the brochure, which you can request from
Paul at P.Myers at sbcglobal.net, Leslie at Leslie at datatudeinc.com.
You can also access the brochure in the files section of the Houston DOP
yahoo group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/houstonarea_dop/
What to Expect
Come ready to participate and to share your thoughts, feelings and needs.
You will learn why nonviolence does not mean that conflict is to be
avoided, and that the objective is to resolve conflict nonviolently.
You will learn why, as hard as one tries, some believe the mind is not
capable of 100% error.
Learn how to tell our truth without fear of saying the wrong thing,
Learn why those that practice nonviolence are not necessarily wimps.
You will learn why understanding feelings and needs are keys to
nonviolent behavior, and why thinking can get you into trouble.
You will learn what authors John Perkins, Confessions of an Economic Hit
Man, Marshall Rosenberg, Nonviolent Communication, and others have
said this year, in their workshops, about social change.
While the workshop addresses spirituality, it is nondenominational in
its content, and is suitable for anyone of any religion/faith or no
religion/faith.
Using a wide variety of media and interactive exercises, learn from your
own experiences how much you already know and understand
There will be a minimal amount of homework in preparation for the next
module.
Hope to see you there!
Kindest regards,
Carole
