Carl,

I know Randy Scott and like him a lot. He is certainly entitled to his
opinion whether you or anyone else agree with it or not. Frankly, I'm less
than thrilled that we have a corporate lawyer running on the Democratic
ticket for U.S. Senator. You asked for alternatives, and here's a great one.
The alternative would be to have a true populist Democrat running for U.S.
Senator against Kay Bailey Hutchison. Some of the Democrats on the statewide
ticket don't stand shoulder to shoulder with the other Democrats on that
same ticket. They act like it's a one person show. It's not going to be the
top of the ticket, Carl that carries the vote this year. It's going to be
the bottom of the ticket that carries the top. Candidates like David Van Os
and Hank Gilbert are two very fine candidates I can think of whose message
is resonating with voters of all political persuasions and even disaffected
voters who've given up on both parties. Some of the candidates on the
Democratic ticket would do well to hitch their wagon to these two men. I
know David Van Os personally, and I can tell you emphatically, he says what
he means and means what he says. With some of the candidates, it's hard to
tell if THEY believe what they say. It's not the same thing to say something
merely to garner votes. You have to truly believe in your message. People
can smell a phony a mile away.

I'm tired of reading and hearing about all this "party loyal" stuff, Carl.
We have just about lost our democracy in this country to a gang of fascist
thugs in Washington and in Austin. It's going to take some REAL populist
Democrats who speak FOR WE THE PEOPLE and who want to REPRESENT WE THE
PEOPLE as opposed to Democrats who use their political position as a
stepping stone to higher office and who are beholden to corporations and
wealthy individuals who line their campaign coffers. That doesn't get it,
Carl. Ordinary Texans aren't going to put up with the bullshit anymore. I
know I'm not.

For the record, Randy Scott and anybody else in these United States are
afforded their right to free speech as guaranteed them in the First
Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. You don't have to agree with a word they
say, but you need to respect their right to say it.

By the way, whether it's a Republican or a Democrat, if that person is not
representing we, the people and what's in our best interests then they
deserve whatever vitriol anyone chooses to dish out on them. If a candidate
does not truly say what's in his/her heart and does not truly want to
represent the average ordinary Texas citizen then that candidate doesn't
deserve our vote, our respect or anything else. I'm not saying Barbara is
that candidate. I hope she's not. If she is, however, the people who voted
for her and entrusted her to stand up for them and their best interests will
not forget. A person should vote for the person they feel BEST represents
their interests. I believe the Democratic Party is supposed to be the Party
of the People, however, many of our Democratic representatives in Washington
and some in Austin seem to have forgotten that. It's high time they
remembered who pays their salaries. It's also way past time we had some
candidates who KNOW they are supposed to work for the people who pay their
salaries and who are doing their dead level best just to make ends meet on a
daily basis. I'm sick and tired of having to hold my nose at the polls when
I go vote. I'm not doing it this year. I'll vote for who I damn well please
and who I feel represents me and what's best for me, mine and all the other
people in Texas who don't earn a 6 figure salary.

In closing, you are entitled to your opinion just as Randy is entitled to
his. I don't know you, but I know and like Randy. Don't bash someone just
because he/she doesn't happen to share the same opinion of a person as you.
It's bad form, really, and goes against a core belief of Democrats which is
that people are afforded their First Amendment rights and those rights are
held sacred.
