Dear ALL,
I have already signed this petition and plan to get active in this group. A light rail system on Richmond avenue would be VERY useful and it would enhance the quality of transportation in Houston. It would reduce traffic, increase area business, open up oppurtunities for those who cannot drive or for those who do not own a vehicle, and it would be helpful towards the environment by reducing smog, air pollution, and carbon dioxide emissions.
Please join me in signing this online petition and in supporting this pro-business, pro-consumer, pro-enhanced communities movement.
Thanks,
Ivan Espinosa
July 17, 2006 RichmondRail.org Action Alert Building support for rail on Richmond
We asked you to sign our online petition to show your support for rail on Richmond, and you did! In just 15 days, more than 700 Houstonians have signed: "I support neighborhood-friendly light rail on Richmond Avenue." Thank you!
We told you we would make sure your voice is heard. On Thursday, we delivered the first batch of petitions -- all 46 pages of them -- to Rep. Culberson, Mayor White, Judge Eckels, and other elected officials at the city, county, state, and federal levels! But we can do more...
Help spread the word to your friends and neighbors!
You know that Richmond Avenue is where the people are. You know that building urban rail on Richmond will be good for our neighborhoods. But do your friends and neighbors know? Help us spread the word! Download and print our RichmondRail flyer (550 kb PDF). Then share it with others and talk about it! You also know that rail is good for business. Rail transit brings customers... without their cars! But do your favorite Richmond businesses know? The next time you head out for fajitas, Guatemalan, hotdogs, or Chinese burger fusion, take our flyer and talk to the owner, staff, and other customers. Let them know that you want their business to thrive and that rail is an important part of our mobility future!
John Culberson says our time is running out -- August 1 deadline!
Congressman Culberson keeps claiming that he won't let METRO build rail anywhere the people don't want it. In a press statement Friday, Culberson said:
"I agreed to wait for two weeks before making a decision based primarily on the input I receive from Richmond residents and business and property owners."That gives us until August 1st to prove that Houstonians want rail on Richmond! Our RichmondRail petition is critical. The more petitions we get, the harder it will be for Culberson to claim that no one wants rail on Richmond! Can you help us build our base? Ask your friends, neighbors, and coworkers to sign the RichmondRail petition, and ask them to do it soon. Use our easy online form, or download a paper petition page (50 kb PDF). The closer people live or work to Richmond, the better!
Get the latest facts from METRO -- 3 meetings scheduled
While METRO's alternatives analysis study is expected to take until December 2006, CEO Frank Wilson promised the public we "can peer over METRO's shoulder" as the technical work progresses. Here's our chance to learn the latest: METRO has scheduled three open houses for us to review the first conceptual drawings and ask questions of staff.
