[PAA-Discuss] Progressive Dems workshop Saturday 1 PM

A reminder to all you progressive Democrats who plan to attend the 
state Democratic convention:

We have a workshop planned for this Saturday afternoon, and hope you 
can come.  It is NOT for all Democrats -- just for those wanting to 
help turn the Texas Democratic Party around in a positive direction, 
who want the TDP to focus on electing progressive candidates who will 
talk about and support issues like election reform/verifiable voting, 
reforming the prison-industrial complex, real improvements in public 
education, health care for all, ending regulation (such as for 
pollution, energy, and more) by the regulated, getting out of Iraq 
now, impeachment, ending the assault on our civil liberties, etc.

When:
Saturday afternoon, June 3, 1 PM - 5 PM (we may finish sooner)

Where:
Heights Branch, Houston Public Library
1302 Heights Boulevard

Tentative agenda for the workshop includes:

* Why attending the state convention is important to progressives

* What happens at the state convention, convention schedule, special 
interest & SD caucuses, etc. along with important times delegates 
should be there

* Break out session so progressives in each Senate District can get 
together so they can know who some of their fellow progressives are, 
go over who to support in their SD caucus, determine who can run for 
open positions where no progressive is running

* Update on what we know concerning the platform, rules changes, 
state party candidates, etc.

* Details of a demonstration being planned (tentatively) for the 
convention by progressives, to encourage Dem. officials and 
candidates to speak up on such critical issues as verifiable 
voting/stealing of elections, control of the Texas regulatory 
agencies by the corporations they are regulating, real education 
reform, the occupation of Iraq, impeachment, etc.

* Overview of Robert's Rules/parliamentary procedures for the 
convention and for its committees

* Getting to the convention, hotels, etc.

We could still use a little more help getting organized for this.  If 
you can help with any of the items on the agenda above, or making 
some last minute copies of handouts on Saturday morning, or bring 
some light refreshments, please let me know as soon as possible.

The workshop is free, although donations to any of the groups 
organizing this would be welcome.
