The 17th Pastors for Peace Friendshipment Caravan will be coming through Houston on their way to Cuba to deliver humanitarian aid. Join us at 3:00pm at St. Dominic Center, 2403 Holcombe Blvd, as we welcome them and hear about their mission. We will still be collecting aid that day, so bring a donation and/or a dish, or just come as you are, and let the caravanistas know we support them in their journey.
For over 40 years, the people of Cuba have been the target of the U.S. government's ruthless and inhumane blockades, hurting those citizens who are most vulnerable. The embargo causes shortages of food, medicine, and other important supplies and is an immoral policy that uses hunger and disease as political weapons. Pastors for Peace works with the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Center in Havana, the Cuban Council of Churches and a distribution committee with representatives from ten different Cuban denominations to deliver US-Cuba Friendshipments. These humanitarian aid shipments mitigate the impact of the embargo and mobilize thousands of US citizens in favor of an alternative.
The Caravan focuses on delivering medicines, educational supplies, sports equipment and tools. Here are a few suggestions: For medicines, vitamins, painkillers and antiseptics are desired (expiration dates no earlier than February 1st, 2007). We welcome reading glasses, walking canes, and wheel chairs. School supplies, backpacks, and textbooks (in Spanish and in very good condition please) make great donations. Construction and auto mechanic's tools are also needed. If you care to donate blankets or linens, they must be unused and in their original wraps.
*We CANNOT accept any clothing or food (except for infant formula and dietary supplements).
*Monetary donations are also urgently needed to help finance the caravan's trip, checks can be made out to Pastors for Peace.
Join us! 3:00pm, Saturday, July 1st, at St. Dominic Center, 2403 Holcombe Blvd.
