Nonprofit Lobbying Training before Nonprofit Congress
If you're coming to the Texas Capitol for the Texas Nonprofit Congress on
June 28, you might as well come early for a training on nonprofit lobbying
laws and strategies. Please join UWT for a frank conversation about what
nonprofits need to do to prepare for legislative success in 2007 and beyond.
What: Join Jason Sabo - Fellow of the Center for Lobbying in the Public
Interest <http://www.clpi.org/> and United Ways of Texas' Vice President
for Public Policy - for a light-hearted training on the in's and out's of
nonprofit lobbying in Texas. This session is intended for the beginner and
the advanced nonprofit lobbyist and will focus on getting your board of
directors to support lobby efforts and the countdown to the 80th Texas
Legislature, set to begin in January 2007. Participants will develop a
timeline based on their own interest, working backwards from the end of the
next legislative session. Please RSVP by clicking here
<mailto:public.policy at uwtexas.org?subject=RSVP%20Nonprofit%20Lobbying%20Trai
ning> and sending along your name and contact info.
When: June 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Come early and grab lunch. (On
your own dime, sorry.) Please plan to stay afterwards and attend the Texas

Where: The Texas Capitol Cafeteria
<http://www.therkgroup.com/CapitolGrill.htm> . Parking is available here
<http://www.tspb.state.tx.us/SPB/Plan/Parking.htm> . We will be in the main
dining room of the Cafeteria.
How Come? Nonprofits in Texas must professionalize their approach to public
policy. Until we understand the mechanics of how the Capitol works, we will
be limited in our effectiveness.

nonprofits together to recognize our common voice, while celebrating our
diverse missions. Robert <http://www.ssireview.com/pdf/2004SU_egger.pdf>
Egger, nationally recognized speaker and thinker on all things nonprofit and
a genuinely funny guy, will be joining us at the summit. The Forum is
designed to be interactive and we'll be looking to YOU to provide
Texas-specific insight about the challenges and opportunities confronting
nonprofits to inform the national Nonprofit

2006. Please RSVP by clicking here

The Homework: There's no such thing as a free Congress. We ask that you
ponder the following questions before the Congress. Written responses are
very welcome. Please send your comments by clicking here
<mailto:public.policy at uwtexas.org?subject=Texas%20Nonprofit%20Congress%20Fee
dback> .
* What do all nonprofits have in common?
* What is the ideal vision for the nonprofit sector in Texas?
* What are the obstacles common to all nonprofits - regardless of
mission - that prevent us from reaching this vision?
* What key short-term and long-term steps can nonprofit organizations
collectively take to eliminate these obstacles?
What if I Can't Come? The Texas Nonprofit Congress will be "webcast" for
viewing across the United States. Keep checking www.uwtexas.org
<file:///\\cmsadmin\> for details. Please note that attendance matters and
we still need a big crowd at the Capitol!
