Actually, a number of Democrats (including some in Congress) have been speaking up about these issues. Not enough of them, of course. And the mainstream media has been doing their typical job of ignoring them as much as possible. For an example of what the MSM tries to keep quiet, see what Dennis Kucinich says: http://kucinich.us/ Look for the article there on "Let's Stand Up for the Constitution - The Military Commissions Act sends the wrong message about the true values of Americans", and read more on this at http://kucinich.us/archive/home/display.php?src=k_20061003_zvyvg_pbzzvf.cuc#more

We cannot pick and choose, but if we do not agree, we can fight for change. Sometimes politics makes strange bedfellows, and we do have to work with people we may not otherwise want to work with or with those who support causes we do not agree with -- as I do on a daily basis.

Yes, I agree completely. And I think Paul agrees on this (correct me if I'm wrong, Paul) -- that we need to work with people in Congress and elsewhere who we disagree with, while still working to hold people accountable. But as Paul points out, we also need to listen to them. And as much as my feelings may say that Bush and Cheney and the rest of their cabal should go to Gitmo to enjoy the treatment that they say is not really torture, I don't really believe that would accomplish much. I think we need to get them out of office as soon as possible, and send them to the Hague to try them for war crimes, but vengeance should not be our motive.
I really like the idea of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, as was suggested in "The Time is Now" by Ken Brady, the movie we showed on Aug. 25. See http://www.paa-tx.org/node/2325 for more info on that.
