This Thursday evening, there's a screening of a new documentary on
Frances Newton ("Frances' Last Words"), and panel discussion coming
up: "Is America Ready to End the Death Penalty?"
The panel will be moderated by Renee Feltz, and will include Ada
Edwards, Minister Robert Muhammad, David Dow and Dave Atwood.
For those of you who missed the PAA meeting last week, or haven't
heard the PSA's on KPFT, this sounds like a very interesting program.
It should also be a good place to pass out flyers for your favorite
candidates and events!
Can one of you please post this on the PAA calendar? thanks!
Event details:
Thursday, October 19
Time 8:00 pm
Title Film Screening: Frances' Last Words
Houston, TX
Location Rice Cinema
A powerful documentary by Thomas Giefer & Rena Giefer
Rice Cinema is located on the Rice University Campus at entrance #8:
University Blvd. and Stockton Dr.
Followed by a public discussion on:
Is America Ready to End the Death Penalty?
A year has already passed since Frances Newton was executed on
September 14, 2005.
Since the execution of innocent Frances, 26 more people have been
executed in Texas, bringing the total number of executions to 376
since capital punishment was resumed in the state in the mid 1970s.
Because of this horrific record, a number of concerned Houston
citizens believe it is time to have a public discussion on this
issue. The title of the discussion would be "Is America Ready to End
the Death Penalty?"
Renee Feltz, Co-founder of KPFT Local News and independent Human
Rights journalist will be the moderator at this event.
Details and graphics are on the Houston Indymedia home page and on
their calendar at
