Dear PAAers:

The impeachment event was a smashing success - congratulations and thanks to
everyone whose time, contributions, and hard work made that possible! There
are still some follow up items to be worked out (such as the impeachment
petition to city council?) but as Cindy, Ada, and others said, we can't kick
back, pop open a beer, and pat ourselves on the back - we have to catch our
breath and get on to the next project.

Unfortunately, as usual due to a standing conflict, I won't be able to
attend the meeting tomorrow but urgently request that we consider some educational
work regarding the extreme evil of corporate domination enabled by corporate
personhood. We had some discussion about this on these lists several weeks
ago but decided to wait until after the impeachment event to really give it
serious consideration. Well, that time is now.

Rather than repeat myself, I have copied below an email I sent out on March
19 that sets out several possibilities I think should be considered. This is
something that many progressive groups would certainly be interested in and
we should invite others as co-sponsors. It shouldn't be nearly as hard to
organize and conduct as the impeachment event. Thanks.

As previously stated, I think corporate domination of our society is the
basic problem we face and would really like for us dig into this situation,
educate ourselves, and spread the word to everyone else.

A number of excellent suggestions have been made about how we might educate
ourselves along these lines, all of which I think should be considered, such
as:

....Dave says he has presented WILPF's Abolishing Corporate Personhood about
5 times, and recommends it highly for anyone wanting to get a good
foundation on these issues. I wonder if we could prevail upon him to do another
presentation for us?

....He also states that Dick Worthen of the Sierra Club's Corporate
Accountability Committee has developed one of the best Powerpoint slide shows he has
seen on corporate personhood, which also sounds great.

....I have just finished viewing the video about Edward Bernays that Robert
recommended. It covers a critical phase of the total problem. I have read a
lot about Bernays from Chomsky and others but had not seen such an in depth
presentation about him. Very good.

....I recently checked out "The Corporation" from Blockbuster (I had seen it
once before but had forgotten about it) and found it also very interesting.

....And of course POCLAD is glad to present a half day or all day seminar
that is very good.

Bill has suggested that we discuss this at the next PAA meeting. I think
there is enough material here to warrant a whole series of programs.
Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the next meeting but really hope those who do
attend will give this line of study serious consideration. I know there are
many important things we need to know about, but truly believe we can't
really deal with most of them until we understand how corporate crony capitalism
has polluted and perverted just about everything. Thanks for your
consideration.

Charlie M
