Dear Joseph,

How dysfunctional are Republicans right now?A recent AP presidential poll showed "none of the above" beating out all of the other declared Republican candidates.Meanwhile, Democrats remain united. That's why already this year, the Democratic Congress has raised the minimum wage, significantly expanded health care coverage for children and implemented the long overdue security recommendations of the 9/11 commission. We've accomplished this, despite Republicans in the Senate and a president who are determined to try to block anything and everything we do.Not only are Democrats working together to pass bills, we're also working together to win elections in 2008. That's why the DSCC, in concert with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic National Committee, released this television ad that discusses the new direction Democrats are charting for our country nationwide today.Click here to watch the Democrats' new television ad.To be sure, there is plenty more Democrats want to get done. We're going to be relentless in trying to force a change in course in Iraq even in the face of egregious obstruction by Bush and his cronies. We are united. And we're going to keep at it.Witness what is happening in New Hampshire right now, where New Hampshire Democrats have started a grassroots movement to convince popular former Governor Jeanne Shaheen to challenge for Republican John Sununu's Senate seat. And no wonder. A recent poll had Shaheen beating Sununu 56%-34% in a hypothetical Senate race.Click here to see what has got New Hampshire activists so excited. Visit www.draftshaheen.com.Out west, Democrats are getting pumped about Democratic Oregon House Speaker Jeff Merkley's announcement into the Senate race. Republican Senator Gordon Smith's stock has been dropping among Oregonians, thanks in no small part to the self-styled moderate's die hard support of George W. Bush. His approval rating is at a mere 37% -- hardly an impressive figure for someone who has spent a decade in the Senate.Once again, Democrats are taking it upon themselves to get Gordon Smith out of office in 2008.Click here to visit www.stopgordonsmith.com.This is what makes my job so exciting. Here at the DSCC, we are in charge of helping to fund and direct races all over the country. It's a tough job. But it becomes so much easier when the Democratic base is fired up. These people I'm telling you about in New Hampshire and Oregon have done everything on their own. And when you've got that level of commitment on the ground, combined with the expertise and reach of the DSCC, you've got something special. You've got something that can change America.Sincerely,J.B. PoerschExecutive Director, DSCCP.S. Click here to make a contribution of $50, $75 or more to help the DSCC capitalize on early Democratic momentum to expand our Senate majority in 2008.
