You might be confused because many are aware that I support the death penalty.
What I was getting at, is that other states probably WILL be executing people: They will extraordinarily rendition them to Texas. Although between states, ER is likely called something else.
My reason for supporting the death penalty, and I have been open about this, is that the criminals in government who misuse the "justice system," should be help accountable for their crimes. If a government agent knows someone to be not guilty, yet they prosecute and punish capitally anyway, then they knew in advance that their actions would result in the death of that person.
That is murder. It involved an aweful lot of premeditation. And an aweful lot of covering one's tracks by hiding behind the guise of seemingly proper authority.
As such, they should be held accountable: Minimally, for the same punishment to which they subjected someone who they knew in advance was NOT guilty. And it could be argued that they should be held accountable more so than that person: Because they truly were guilty, while they knew the person they misused the justice system to murder, was not guilty.

It's not a about only capital cases occuring, it's a case of Texas being the only state with a death penalty on the books. Murder and mayhem will undoubtedly still occur in the other states... they just won't be excuting people.

Hummm. I don't see how all capital cases could occur only in Texas. Seems like we have extraordinary rendition going on right here in this country.

Good editorial in the NY Times about Texas use of the death penalty.
