A final reminder of an important event for social justice (details
below), and a great networking opportunity for us:
I hope to see many of you at this event Saturday, wearing a t-shirt
for your favorite presidential candidate, issue, or organization.
I plan to be there, armed with a tote bag full of flyers for our
April 9 impeachment rally. If you can help pass out flyers to
everyone, find me or Don Cook or someone else passing out flyers and
grab a handful or two. (We also need help passing out flyers for the
Apr. 9 impeach event at the Westheimer street festival Sat.
afternoon, where thousands of people will be).
Publicity has not been very great for the march/rally tomorrow and
there was some confusion about the time, but it starts at Hermann
Square (in front of Houston city hall) around noon Saturday, then a
little later there's a march from there for a few blocks and then
back to city hall.
From the PAA web site/calendar:
http://www.paa-tx.org/node/2550
(Other worthwhile events are listed there, too.)
Houston Coalition of Working People and the Poor has called this
major march and rally to advance its 2007 agenda: raising the federal
minimum wage, healthcare for all, and adequate funding of human needs
programs, especially the critical entitlement programs that are up
for re-authorization this year-Food Stamps and State Children's
Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
It's important that middle-class Anglo activists stand with people of
color for the issues that matter most in their lives. Plus, the
struggle for new budget priorities connects peace and economic
justice in the most meaningful way.
Gather at noon in Hermann Square (in front of Houston City Hall). The
short march kicks off at 1 p.m., then the rally begins at 1:45 on the
City Hall steps.
