[PAA-Discuss] Yeah, he's your man, all right

Alyssa,

Let me please clarify at the outset that I am not personally a Libertarian.
There are issues I have with the Libertarians that will always be there,
because my political orientation is Leftist. But that said, I am looking
practically at the question of the war, and who represents authentic
opposition to it. Ron Paul is one of those who does. That is indisputable,
however you and I may disagree with him on other issues. Right now there is
one and only one issue that is of primary importance to us, if we wish to
live a moral life, and that is stopping the wholesale murder of people in
the Middle East by the US military and its allies. Ron Paul unquestionably
represensts this position. Now I am aware that there are a few others who
do also. And Cynthia McKinney is someone who, if she ran, would get my vote
before Ron Paul. But that is neigher her nor there at the moment. What I
believe we must look at now, ALL OTHER ISSUES ASIDE, is who is with us and
who is against us about stopping US military aggression. So Ron Paul is
someone I support, as is Cynthia. Among the Democrats, I favorably view
Dennis K (though I sometimes think he serves as a schil) and Mike Gravel. I
disagree with both of them about some issues, but will support their
striving for their party's nomination because they both oppose the war
against Iraq. It is really that simple. If we introduce other issues into
the conversation, we create division. I am for unity.

Peace,
Ken

Ken, first of all, I quibble greatly with your definition of a major
contender for a major party nomination. Have you looked at the polls in the
Republican Party?

Do you read the post that here several days ago--quoting Paul on such topics
as immigration and minorities?

Yes, the war is a terrible thing and I'm an antiwar activist. I'm also an
activist for justice for all, justice and tolerance and all those other
things Paul doesn't talk about very much. A country led by Ron Paul is a
country devoid of a "safety net" for old and poor, a country where
corporations are free to run over citizens in the name of free enterprise,
and a country where there are no restrictions on what happens in the
marketplace. You call it libertarianism. I call it an excuse for the right
wing and the big corporations to have their way with our country.

I think a lot of people are being taken for a ride on this one. Any
candidate who finds solidarity at a conference of "Focus on the Family" and
the Reverend James Dobson does not represent me, nor does he represent
progressive ideals.

Libertarianism is astoundingly regressive, not progressive.

Alyssa,

other issues I agree or disagree with. What other major contender for a

My agenda is antiwar, pure and simple. Yours seems much more complex. You
are welcome to it, but I feel our primary responsibility is to the
thousands and thousands of victims of US military aggresson, and you have
said not one word to challenge Ron Pauls claim that he means to stop that,
in addition to doing away with the CIA and the Federal Reserve System. How
do you propose to help the victims of our foreign aggression? Who is your
candidate? You can promote whom you like, but at the end of the day, very
few contenders speak authentically as antiwar candidates, but Ron Paul
cannot be gainsaid in this regard.

Because of your other agenda, you are piling on the innuendo pretty thick
here, but i don't think Ron Paul is anywhere near the demon you make him out
to be.

Peace,
Ken

Oppose stem cell research? Oppose women's reproductive rights? Think it's
just WONDERFUL that we have nuclear power plants, and want more? Make tacky
comments about African Americans and other minorities? Hang out with James
Dobson at the Family Research Council right-wing Christian love fest? Yeah,
he's your man.
