Subject: Break the chains of oil addiction
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Kathryn,
Welcome to September, and what is shaping up to be a busy
and exciting fall at Oil Change. To stay up to date on the Iraqi Oil Law
and other issues, be sure to check in regularly at www.priceofoil.org, and
join the conversation.
Also, a quick thank you for making last week's appeal to
support our work on the Iraqi oil law our most successful ever. Iraqis are
also continuing to protest this law. We will continue to keep you updated
on this timely and critical issue.
Today though, I want to highlight some of our other
international work.
For people in poor countries around the world, breaking
free from the chains of debt depends on breaking our addiction to oil.
For decades, wealthy countries have been subsidizing the
operations of the international oil industry in some of the world's most
impoverished countries. While the corporations get richer, hundreds of
millions of people are locked into a cycle of poverty and debt as oil prices
soar and oil production devastates their lives and land.
Show your solidarity with the people of the world most
affected by oil and debt by joining us this fall for the Cancel the Debt
Fast!
Oil Change International is partnering with Jubilee USA to
coordinate a worldwide fast to draw attention to the impacts of debt and oil
on impoverished countries. As part of the fast, we are sponsoring one day,
September 28, as the Oil and Debt Day. Sign up for the fast and use this
day as an opportunity to talk to your neighbors, members of Congress and the
media about the connection between oil and debt.
September 28 also coincides with the Bush Administration's
conference of the world's biggest climate polluting nations. This
conference is a clear attempt to undermine the Kyoto Protocol. Please help
us respond to the Administration's disastrous path by taking action at this
conference or any of the other events going on in DC throughout the next two
months.
We hope you can fast with us or join us for one of the
many events in DC this fall. Every effort you make helps.
Peace,
Trina Zahller
