[PAA-Discuss] Mass Transportation in Houston

I had a class that started at 11:00AM this morning, I left my house at the
usual time of 10:00 only to realize as I entered I-10 that it was bumper to
bumper traffic, this is usual for any time between 6:00-10:00AM going into
town or 4:00-7:30PM going out of town but by around 10:00 traffic is usually
cleared up. I've scheduled my life around traffic for the last two years, I
know when traffic is bad and when it's good, I've got traffic flow down to a
pattern. So when I got onto I-10 near Beltway 8 this morning and realized
that we were going 5 mph's and it did not become alleviated for 10 minutes
then 20, 30, 40 and then finally an hour I became some what pissed off
because well, I was missing class. Instead of sitting there banging my head
against the steering wheel I decided to call Culberson's office and ask a
few questions about why we're building this massive highway that will no
more alleviate traffic than it will add to it.

He was in Washington apparently so I had his secretary take down my
information and requested that he respond in a timely manner. This of
course, as I knew at the time, would be looked at as a joke by his
highness. I no more expect him to return my call than I expect a formal
apology from Fred Thompson & Co.

After getting little information from Culberson's office I decided to call
Hutchinson's office, seeing as I had a good hour and 15 minutes now in the
car I had plenty of time to dial these people's phone numbers. Hutchinson
is also apparently in Washington. I talked to her secretary aid person as
well and asked why they decided to uproot the railroad track on the
northside of I-10 instead of making it into mass transportation. He had no
answer, only that "they took it into consideration". I asked about what
bills or legislature was passed when this was all decided on and he
responded with "there were none". So I asked who decided on it and he
explained that it really wasn't up to the state government and was some how
decided on by the federal government. I added except... "Culberson was of
course lobbied on this issue" and he agreed. He also added that mass
transportation down I-10 is not out of the picture and that it is still
being decided on... by whom I have no idea, when ... who knows.

It's time we start holding these people accountable, they are in control of
when we get to places, which places we get to and who gets where fastest
(Westpark tollway and the plans for the tollway down I-10).

http://www.westhouston.org/katy_freeway.htm - yea that looks totally
healthy for our environment not to mention how much land this takes up. I
am SO SICK OF BREATHING IN THESE FUMES FOR NOTHING!

Houston NEEDS Mass Transportation.

Please start calling these people and putting pressure on their decision
making, history will not look kindly on this amount of idiocy.
