A blogger on the Kucinich Web site gives a link to a very interesting comparison chart. The last item on the chart lists the candidates' answers to the following question from the 3rd Democratic debate:
Would you bomb innocent civilians on a tip that Osama was at that location?
Kucinich answered no. Every other candidate, including Richardson and Gravel, answered yes.
That's the difference between Richardson and Kucinich, whom John Nichols dismissed in the last election with no real explanation except that Kucinich is unelectable. Nichols has gone on for years in article after article about the inhumanity of the invasion and occupation blah, blah, blah but is as ready as any Fox News reporter to dismiss Kucinich because he talks about peace.
Richardson talks a lot about taking our heroic soldiers out of harm's way but says nothing about Iraqi lives. He is as eager as the next candidate to talk about using military force to stop Iran from developing weapons. And he's a free trade advocate.
I realize, Charlie, that you only said that Richardson will be interesting to watch. But I disagree. He is as disheartening to watch as the other candidates. He has said he wants to move American troops to Kuwait to monitor progress in Iraq. That means bombing Iraqi cities that the U.S. deems troublesome, like his former boss Clinton did but probably more vigorously because from Kuwait bombing will be more convenient. Fewer American deaths; more Iraqi misery.
