BRIEF BACKGROUND:
olivia's Madidi National Park and Pilón Lajas Biosphere 
eserve are communal lands containing some of the most 
iodiverse areas on earth. With the assent of President 
vo Morales, the oil giant Petrobas and collaborators 
ave begun an oil exploration assault that threatens not 
nly these remarkable ecosystems, but also the culture 
nd livelihood of the resident indigenous peoples. Mr. 
orales must be encouraged to live up to his grand 
hetoric, and end his government's hurried plans to 
ecimate indigenous protected areas, local sustainable 
ivelihoods and t
heir rainforest lands' biodiversity and 
limate values.
