Improve the Global Warming Debate!

Friends of the Earth Action is fighting to make the Senate's global warming
bill better, or to get the public a better bill from next year's new
government.

to do so now.

Some didn't think that our campaign to "Fix or Ditch" the Lieberman-Warner
global warming bill would resonate. It has.
We thought America and the world deserved a much better global warming bill,
and you backed us up. Together, you and Friends of the Earth Action are
opening eyes throughout the progressive community.
"Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas Zuniga says he wouldn't have known about
the bill had it not been for Friends of the Earth's ads." - _Politico
2/13/08_
(http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=2JiiEK1Cj83XkoLlt/UYgGrAN2oVbp3Z) Thousands of your calls, emails and letters have come pouring
into Congress. And with your help, we have run advertisements in major
Capital Hill print publications, on radio, and on key progressive websites on the
internet explaining that this bill fails to meet the call of our times.
Just this weekend we went up on television too. The heat is on, and evidence of
our message's appeal is rolling in (see below).
Help us keep the momentum going by _making a donation today_
(http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=cFNSGiUaj3NNNePbSgF4X2rAN2oVbp3Z) .
Until fixed, we will keep the bill's two key flaws front and center:
    * It doesn't get us close to global warming pollution reductions
called for by scientists (over 80 percent by 2050); and
    * For these insufficient reductions the bill lavishes up to $1
trillion on fossil fuel industries, instead of making them pay to pollute.
_See Friends of the Earth's analysis of the giveaways_ (http://s
alsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=yVInIfjqYemUx+mA+D8O82rAN2oVbp3Z) (pdf).
The hour is too late for flawed half-measures, and Americans get that. If
we cut the bill's subsidies to polluting industries, and auction off the
permits that allow corporations to pollute -- as called for by both Democratic
presidential candidates -- the public can use that money to invest in efforts
to slow down emissions right away, such as encouraging green jobs, renewable
energy and energy efficiency.
Friends of the Earth Action has a plan for making this bill better, or
getting the public a better bill. We are not only working in the trenches on
Capitol Hill to get lawmakers to improve this bill, we are going out to the
public to mount pressure -- and we _need your help_
(http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=E9UibDV5OXtZEc6mvo1jijPH7bwPkeJf) .
Our effort to get this message out is working, but it is expensive. If you
value a voice like Friends of the Earth Action -- a voice that calls for a
fair bill that gets us where science says we need to be -- then please _donate
to this campaign today_

    *   Internet advertising
    * Research on potential changes to the bill, both good and bad
    * Coordination among a growing body of grassroots organizations
speaking out against the bill's shortcomings

It is the best investment for those who wish to raise the bar on global
