[PAA-Discuss] Wow, just wow... Zbigniew Brzezinski working for Obama - REALLYNOWTHINKPEOPLE

Dear Lee,
I'm sure you know that my love and respect for you is real and goes back a
long way. In my e-mail I even say Mr. or Senator Obama or Congresswoman
Lee. So I have no intention to be disrespectful to anyone specially to a
good friend and a long time peace activist like you. As I mentioned in my
speech at UST, American people are electing the WAR PRESIDENT in this
election and it is unfortunate for all of us not to delve deeper in
understanding the true position of the candidates on the vital questions
like war and peace. It is unfortunate because an uneducated vote could
easily help a candidate become a president that doesn't hesitate to drop
bombs on my family in Iran or my brothers and sisters in Iraq or elsewhere
from day one. I know you very well that you have fought for peace all your
life, so it would be great to have a debate/discussion among ourselves -the
voters- to see why we vote the way we vote. I have my own reasons to believe
that Mr. Obama will continue the same "war on terror". You or someone else
might have different opinion, we can discuss that without getting agitated.
We need to help each other in this regard.
Massoud

To Jessica: I fail to see how anyone who feels those who don't agree with
them are "sheep" or, as Massoud has suggested, it is "unfortunate" that we
believe in change through an Obama candidacy. This is NOT repect. I feel
that what is really going on is that all of us love ourselves, our families,
our earth and want these precious things to survive. We all care deeply and
are trying to work out what is best to be done. No non-thinking sheep here,
Jessica, and it isn't as simple as you seem to be making it, Bill. I wish I
had the gift of being able to say what I am feeling. Sorry if I am mudding
the water. I'm just tired being admonished to "think" as though I have not
been doing it for a long damn time! My first vote was for Adlai Stevenson,
by the way. Doesn't mean I know more than anyone else, just that I have been
thinking, not following sheep-like, for a long time. Lee L

I think it's really clear that neither Hillary nor Barack are peace
candidates. They both voted for funding the occupation, even though now
both of them say they want to bring the troops home (but without much
specifics). Neither seem to have expressed any understanding (IMHO) of the
problems in the Middle East -- especially the Palestinian/Israeli conflict,
and appear to be letting AIPAC do their thinking for them. As long as that
continues, we're bound to have big problems in the Middle East.
Neither Hillary nor Barack have anything even approaching a single payer
universal health care system. Both of them have plans that will help enrich
the insurance companies and cover some additional people, but probably with
less coverage because of the large overhead of the insurance companies.
Neither seem to understand the problems of our trade policies, either.
So, what debate do we want? Perhaps regarding whether Ralph Nader or
Cynthia McKinney should get the Green Pary nomination?
BTW, unless someone can convince me otherwise in the next few days, I'm
planning to vote for Richardson or Edwards in the Dem. primary. (Remember
they are still on the Texas ballot even though they've withdrawn, but not
Kucinich). Neither of these was my first choice but they're closer to
Kucinich's positions than either Obama or Clinton. I'll vote in the primary
because there are some other good candidates down-ballot, and so I can go to
my precinct convention. But I don't like holding my nose and voting for the
lesser of the evils, especially in the primary.

idea to organize a debate around this election. After all the election time
is the best time that we can educate ourselves. It is unfortunate that some
people believe that Senator Obama is for change and against war. As Kris and
Jessica have mentioned many times, there is enough history and information
to show that Mr. Obama will not bring any major changes and would follow the
same dangerous foreign policy of "war on terror".

>Those who think differently and are excited about Mr. Obama's candidacy
should welcome this debate. This is going to be a chance for everyone to
present facts and figures. I was at the NBUF meeting at Shape center the
other day, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was on the panel defending and
justifying Senator Hillary Clinton's position of supporting war against Iraq
and also she was complaining about Mr. Nader announcing his willingness to
run for Presidency. But somehow, may be out of respect, nobody challenged
her seriously! But If we organize a debate we would allow the different
opinion to be heard, that would be our way of being respectful. There is
enough excitement out there to organize a debate like this. And the key to
have a successful meeting is to avoid the big names or invite any official
representatives. It has to be a debate between the voters.

change behind it. Kris we can do this even if it's the two of us against a
