Charlie,
I am forwarding this e-mail on to the PAA discussion list and the CE Houston
group for their perusal. Thanks for the information. There is one other
important committee at the SD level and that's the Credentials Committee.
This committee decides if a person has met the qualifications for being a
delegate at the SD convention. Typically, the old Democratic Party hacks try
to fill all the committees with their cronies. Progressive Democrats need to
make sure they are on all the committees to balance them out.
Kris

John,
Don't know if we updated you and the list about the results of the primary
election in Houston 3/4/08 regarding the Clean Elections resolution but here
it is. We know for sure that our local group got it approved in at least 8
precincts and several of us were elected as delegates to the Senatorial
District conventions on 3/29/08. In addition Kris got a copy of the
resolution included in the packets that the Harris County Dem party sent out
to all its precinct chairs - about 600 in all.
I was working at precinct 570 and had access to the packet that the precinct
chair received and was surprised to note that the CE resolution was the only
one in the packet. I thought there would be lots of others but there was
not. So since presumably most of the precinct chairs read the materials in
the packet and many are at least reasonably progressive, there is a good
chance the resolution was passed in lots of other precincts that we do not
know about. If we assume at least 5% of the 600 did so, it could have passed
in 30 other precincts. That would be really good.
I understand there are 3 important committees at the SD conventions -
platform, rules, and resolutions. So those of us who are delegates should
try to get on the resolutions committee so we can work to make sure the CE
resolution is not sidetracked and gets passed. I hear that you need to do
some preliminary work to get a committee assignment. The Harris County
Executive Committees met on March 12 to form the committees for the SD
Conventions, so you need to find out (probably from your precinct chair or
from HCDP headquarters) who to contact to get on the resolutions committee.
If anyone knows anything different from this, please let me know and pass it
on. I think we have a good chance to get this resolution passed in several
SDs and we need to work hard on that - it's really important! As John says,
take some extra copies of the resolution with you to the convention and pass
them out ahead of time.
Thanks to everyone for all your work on this.

Clean Elections Friends,
This is a friendly reminder that the March 29th Conventions are coming
up and we are asking all of you who will be delegates to your County or
Senatorial Conventions to please download copies of our Clean Elections
resolution from the files section of our Clean Elections yahoo site and
to distribute copies of them to delegates at your Convention.
We are asking everyone to be a Clean Elections advocate on the 29th and
help get this resolution passed at your convention so we can get it on
the resolutions list at the State Convention.
Your help is key to promoting Clean Elections and public financing in
Texas.
Regards,
John Courage, TCAN Director
