To All,
Does anyone on this list really think that we should "thank" Mr. Obama when it comes to the question of TORTURE after what we have heard on Democracy Now! this morning? I have no doubt now, if the American people don't step forward and bring an end to the out of control policy of Torture, Illegal Arrests and Detentions in this country, they will gain nothing except a disguised police state. These are the critical times. If so-called "progressive" people feel like thanking their President on the issue of "torture" while the situation is getting even worse than before, then we are facing a very gloomy future. Speak Up Now, this is the mother of all demands; No more torture, No more secret arrests and detentions! This is the ABC of a democratic society.
Are we allowed to talk about this issue on this list or are we here just to sign petitions?
Massoud

Subject: [PAA-Discuss] Obama releases torture memos
Dear Juli,
Send a letter to
President Obama and Attorney General Holder.
Thank them for releasing the torture memos.
Send your letter today!
We learned yesterday that the Obama Administration has publicly released those secret torture memos.
What we saw in them was disturbing and immoral, but it's important that these actions can no longer be denied or hidden.
President Obama took a big step toward proving that he is committed to openness and transparency.
Click here to sign a thank-you letter to President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder for doing the right thing!
The American people have a right to know what is inside those memos and Common Cause will be among those looking closely at them.
We commend the Administration, and urge President Obama to support the creation of an independent panel to investigate abuses of power by the Bush Administration, including torture and other reprehensible acts believed to have taken place during the previous administration.
Join us in thanking the White House and Justice Department for releasing the torture memos. Send a letter to the Administration now!
Thanks for all you do,
Arn Pearson, Vice President for Programs
and the rest of the team at Common Cause
