However, the opposite seems to be true.

This is the only list, and I am on a lot of lists, that I/we have been
attacked from (Gary Yokie, someone stole his id and sent something that my
security system blocked) On my other lists, which unlimited size, if there
is a virus security blocks it atomatically and I never see it until the end
of the day when ad-aware picks up the garbage and removes it.

I agree with Massoud that we should end the practice of limiting the size of
the messages we send.

My $.02 is that when this limit was implemented, we still had several people
using dialup which made it difficult for them to retrieve when large
attachments were distributed. I would imagine that most people have moved
away from this and on to faster internet service.

Remember however, that this attachment limit was also implemented to help
prevent virus infected files from being distributed. In many cases, a PC
becomes infected and the result is that the Windows virus sends email to all
addresses in an individual's address book with an infected attachment in
order to "spread the joy".  If we find that the spread of viruses becomes an
issue, the limit may have to be restored.

I would suggest upping it to 400k, having moderated this list for quite a
while, that would catch the majority of messages that are designated as too
large for the list.
