[PAA-Discuss] The passing of Carl Schaer

A longtime member of the Houston Peace News team has passed away. 
Lee Loe  is checking with Carl's church to determine if there is a 
scholarship fund for his fifteen year old son  and if so how the 
peace and justice community can contribute.

This is from the Houston Chronicle:

CARL HENRY SCHAER, 55, of Houston, died of cancer on October 15, 
2009. The son of Henry and the late Sue Mallicote Schaer, he was born 
in Houston on October 23, 1953. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth 
"Liz" Hausmann Schaer; son, Aaron; father, Henry; sister, Nancy 
Camina and husband Willie; and numerous other family.A graduate of 
Houston's Waltrip High School, he received his B.S. degree in physics 
from Texas A & M University, and a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from 
Yale University. He was an accomplished pianist and received a 
Master's Degree in Music Composition from Rice University's Shepherd 
School of Music. Carl then secured a position writing computer 
software for HCSS, a start-up software company for Heavy 
Construction, where he was employed until his death.Carl was an 
advocate for peace and justice, serving as treasurer of the Houston 
Peace News for 15 years. In recent years, Carl and his family loved 
volunteering at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. A life-long 
Lutheran, he was an active member of Christ The King Lutheran Church. 
The family will receive friends and relatives at the Bradshaw-Carter 
Home, 1734 W. Alabama, from five until seven o'clock in the evening 
on Monday, October 19, 2009. Services will be held at half past three 
o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Christ The 
King Lutheran Church, 2353 Rice Blvd., Houston. In lieu of flowers, 
memorials may be made to Christ The King Lutheran Church, The Heifer 
Project, or the charity of one's choice. Online tributes may be
