Free mammograms for uninsured women age 40+

New grant: UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, HoustonDHHS and The Rose is
offering free mammograms by appointment to women age 40 and older who do not
have health insurance or a Harris County Hospital District "Gold Card."
Appointments are available immediately and will continue throughout 2010. 

As part of this joint effort to detect and control breast cancer, M. D.
Anderson's mobile mammography van will regularly visit several of the city's
health and multi-service centers, including Northside Health Center,
Sunnyside Health Center and Denver Harbor Multi-Service Center. To learn
more and to make an appointment, call 713-794-9999. As a part of the
program, women must attend an education session at a designated city health
and multi-service center to learn what they can expect at their mammogram
and the importance of detecting breast cancer early. Should a diagnostic
follow-up mammogram be needed, patients will be referred to The Rose, a
Houston non-profit breast cancer organization that provides services to low
income and uninsured women.
