Mulling the Public Option

As the effort to reform health care nears the end, one of the biggest
issues yet to be decided is the public insurance option. Democratic leaders in
Congress support creating a government-run health care plan that would be
available to the uninsured. But to get the plan past Republicans and
conservative Democrats, they'll need to get a filibuster-proof 60 votes. In
recent days, leaders have huddled to come up with tweaks to the public option
that would pass muster.

America's Longest Wars

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are now among the longest in U.S. history.

Only the Revolutionary and Vietnam wars outpace them.

Former U.S. Ambassador Richard Holbrooke has forecast that the war in
Afghanistan will eventually be the longest war in U.S. history.

How to Get Your Letter Published

Every month, the typical small-town newspaper editor receives hundreds or
even thousands of letters from readers.

Still, many are unprintable either because they are too long, too
confusing or just plain offensive.

That means it's not that hard to get your letter published, provided you
follow a few simple rules.

small-town papers_
