Subject: Decision imminent on justice in Colombia

Dear Laura,

A decision on Carmelo Agamez's case could come any day--he is one of
too many unjustly detained activists in Colombia.

Take action today: Send this message to your networks: we need more
signatures urging due process for Colombian human rights defenders!

Thank you for your recent action supporting Carmelo Agamez and
Colombian human rights activists!
Now we're hearing that the Prosecutor General could decide on Agamez's
appeal any day.
Tomorrow I plan on forwarding your petitions to our contacts who work
on Colombia at the State Department: We've already gathered 3,791
signatures, but I'm hoping to send them 7,000: please forward this
message to your networks today.
Agamez spent his career defending the victims of paramilitary violence,
calling out politicians working with paramilitaries or guilty of
corruption, and protecting local populations from paramilitary death
squads. Now he's being accused of being a paramilitary. He has spent
over a year in jail on these trumped-up charges.
You can use this link to send a message to your friends--or forward the
message below to spread the word about his case. Thank you for standing
up for due process for those fighting for human rights.
Sincerely,
Andrew Hudson

Hey there,
This is ridiculous: Carmelo Agamez, a Colombian human rights activist,
has been in jail for over a year on bogus charges. After spending his
career calling out politicians working with paramilitaries or guilty of
corruption, he was accused of being a paramilitary--absolutely baseless
charges.
The U.S. gave Colombia over $40 million in human rights and rule of law
aid last year--with a condition that Colombia treat human rights
activists fairly. They're not holding up their end of the bargain.
Please join me in signing this letter to the State Department, calling
for Colombia to stop persecuting human rights defenders:
