[PAA-Discuss] Fwd: Appeal for support

Have you heard one candidate in this election talk about ending the "war"
now? I have had my feelers out and heard not a word even from our so called
"green" candidates...........what? is it a taboo?
I just read the League of Women's voters of the Houston Area.............not
one mention of the criminality of the Government's illegal "wars" not one
mention of the criminal terrorist bankers..........but lots and lots of
words about the criminal population and how they are going to create more
revenue for the killing machine (government) and how this candidate is going
to fit into the status quo system.
but I don't see a place on the ballot for "none of the above" so by not
voting how is that going to send any message (strong or weak)..........I
wonder if by going and filling out the written ballot but not voting for any
of the candidates......would that send a message? I doubt it unless there
was many many ballots like that and too many people are cowards by voting a
straight and not even knowing who they are voting for.
I mean........how can any person be trained to vote against their own
interest? We have been tricked (me too) into thinking that our voting
makes a difference.......that we are actually participating in
governance.......this is how they manufacture consent............WE VOTED
FOR THE SYSTEM.........the system is broken......we need to vote for a new
system.

We are not voting for "A Party", Massoud. We are voting on individuals.
Kucinich, for instance, (and yes we are not voting on him) is not pro war,
against labor, and immigrants. He represents my principles. Since voting for
Adlai Stevenson, my first-time voting, I realize that rare is the candidate
who represents all of my principles; actually, there never will be one, I
guess, as Kucinich thought we had to go into Afghanistan with weapons after
9/11 to get Osama Ben Laden instead of accepting Afghanistan's offer to turn
him over to an international court and trying him there. I also believe that
we do things in steps and to prevent as much harm as we can. Therefore, I
will vote for Bill White but for all of the other Green Party candidates. It
is too bad that a Green is not running for Culberson's seat!! No Dem is
running either. The judgeship positions are also a case in point, but it is
hard to know where their sympathies lie. In TX they tend to run on the
ticket they think is going to win, whether or not they are Democrats or
Republicans. You need to know about each one, but that is an impossibility.
So --- it is impossible to be pure, Massoud, except for you and Kris,
perhaps. Also, a great many Democrats voted NO to the Military Commissions
Act of 2006 and against the war in Iraq, including Sheila Jackson Lee, E.
Bernice Johnson, and other Texans. Lee

George rightly says that both Democrat and Republican Party are "corporate
sponsored party"; however Bill says "There are some good Democrats running"
and he hopes that we don't "forget about them". so, how can Bill explain
this contradiction? Is he asking us to vote for the candidates who are the
stooges of a Corporate Party? A Party that is pro war, against labor,
immigrants and. - you know against all of our principles?
This is a discussion group and as Kris always asks, we should discuss
matters rather than become a Billboard ad for the Corporate. Any comments?

Please see George's note below, about Deb Shafto, who's running for
governor.
If you missed the last gubernatorial debate, you can watch it at
http://www.klru.org/blog/2010/10/gubernatorial-debate
Also, please remember that even if you plan to vote straight Dem, you can
override individual choices. There are some good Democrats running for
state legislature, judges, etc. and I hope you won't forget them.
In addition, note that there is NO Democrat running for state Comptroller
against Susan Combs, so I hope that even 100% Dems will vote for the Green
Party candidate (Edward Lindsay) in that race.
All the Texas Green party candidates are listed at http://txgreens.org

>DearBill,
>I would appreciate it if you would forward this to the PAA list, if that
seems appropriate to you.

>I am writing to ask that you vote your conscience tomorrow, if you haven't
voted yet. There is a clear difference between the positions of the Green
Party and either corporate sponsored party. Deb Shafto's speaking at the
Gubernatorial debate in opposition to the death penalty, in support of a
progressive income tax on the top 20% of income earners in the state to pay
for essential social services, and her suggestion that immigrants are worthy
people, make a contribution to our society, and should be treated with
compassion, was the first time the people of Texas have heard such a voice.
If she was speaking your values, (see
<http://www.electdebshafto.com/>www.electdebshafto.com for the debate and
more) then I would ask you to vote for her and the other Greens on the
ballot. If we don't stand for our values in voting, we can't expect to see
the democratic process bring a world come into being that is consistent with
those values.
