Devils River State Natural Area
Thank you for taking action this past week asking the Texas Parks and
Wildlife Department (TPWD) to preserve the Devils River State Natural Area.
Thanks in part to input from the Sierra Club (that means you!) TPWD has
announced that they have pulled the item from their November 4 agenda.
According to TPWD, the Devils River item will be discussed during an
executive session and during a public briefing tomorrow at the 9 a.m. by the
Commission's Conservation Committee. Depending on the outcome of tomorrow's
briefing, the department may set more public meetings about the project in
coming weeks. _Click here for the TPWD Press Release._

Here is the Statement of Ken Kramer, Lone Star ChapterDirector, Sierra
Club on the TPWD Announcement by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
Postponing a Decision on the Proposed Devils River Land Transaction:
"The Sierra Club appreciates the action taken by Texas Parks and Wildlife
Department today to postpone a final decision on the proposed trade of the
Devils River State Natural Area plus an $8 million cash payment for the
Devils River Ranch. Members of the public have made their voices loud and
clear that they are opposed to this land transaction and the proposal has not
had an adequate public airing. We hope that with some additional time to
review this proposal the Parks and Wildlife Commission will reach a final
conclusion that the Devils River State Natural Area should remain part of the
state parks system."
Thanks for all that you do to help the Sierra Club be one of the most
effective advocacy groups in Texas! We cannot do it without you. Keep up the
good work.
Sincerely,
Ken Kramer
