Subject: TSA Update and Grassroots ACTION - Support Dignity in Texas

June 6, 2011

Dear Texas Patriots:

Previous anti-TSA groping legislation was pulled before a vote was
taken in the Senate, and we need Governor Perry to add bills to the
Special Session taking place now!

Call and email Governor Perry TODAY and tell him to add HB 41 and SB 29
(formerly HB 1937 anti-TSA groping bill) to the Special Session.

Phone: 512-463-2000

TSA legislation update from Rep. David Simpson and important ACTION
ALERT below

“...The Governor immediately called a special session of the
Legislature which began last Tuesday.  Special sessions are called for
specific purposes and limited to 30 days.  If we don't finish in 30
days, the Governor can call us back again.  The rules are different,
allowing for a compressed amount of time for filing bills, posting
hearings, and even activity on the floor.  The Governor can add any
issue at any time to the call for the special session.

“This first special session was initially called to address school
finance and critical healthcare matters.  Since then Governor Perry has
added congressional redistricting and windstorm insurance to the call.
Lt. Gov. Dewhurst has formally requested that my legislation,
prohibiting intrusive touching in searches without probable cause (HB
1937), be added to the call as well.  Last Thursday I filed the
legislation in the House (now known as HB 41) and Senator Patrick filed
the identical legislation (SB 29) in the Senate.  The legislation has
received support across the state and nation.  Similar legislation is
being introduced now in Utah--10 states have now filed legislation to
restrict this abuse of our 4th Amendment rights.

“Among other efforts to support this legislation, numerous grassroots
organizations joined together yesterday for a rally at the Capitol
calling for Governor Perry to add HB 1937 the call.  Then later in the
afternoon the State Republican Executive Committee adopted an almost
unanimous resolution asking Governor Perry to add the legislation as
well to the special session.  If you support this legislation too, I
would urge you to call the Governor and ask him to add it to the call.”

Grassroots ACTION! Phone calls, emails, and office visits to support
dignity in Texas!

Call and email Governor Perry NOW and tell him to add HB 41 and SB 29
to the Special Session.
Phone: 512-463-2000
Call your Representative and Senator to express your support for HB 41
and SB 29, the anti-TSA groping bills.  Ask where they stand on the
issue.
Click here to find out who represents you.  Note their names, phone
numbers, email addresses, and room numbers.
If you are able to make it to the Capitol on Wednesday for a few office
visits, during your phone calls, let them know you'll be stopping by to
talk to someone about this important legislation. Let them know that
you expect to find out where your Rep./Sen. stands on the issue when
you see them Wednesday. These appointments are fairly casual. You and a
staffer will sit down where you can express your opinions about the
bills (generally last less than 5 minutes).

Send an email telling your Rep./Sen. how you feel about HB 41 and SB
29. Also, insist on a response in writing, including his/her position
on this important legislation.

Don’t forget to always speak from your heart!

Wednesday, June 8th - Lobby Day!

TIME: Join us anytime between 10am-2pm
DATE: Wednesday, June 8th
LOCATION: Rotunda of the Texas Capitol  Call or text Heather Fazio if
you have trouble: (512)825-9142

Information regarding parking can be found here.

Click here to view Capitol Floor Maps.

Come prepared with your legislators' room numbers and a hand-written
note on Wednesday.  Express how you feel about TSA "pat-downs" and
Texas passing a bill to prevent them.

We are encouraging office visits to your own Representative and
Senator, as well as the Office of the Governor.  Taking the time to
talk to your elected official (or staff) about why this legislation is
important you and your family is one of the most impactful ways to let
them know where you stand.

We'll have maps, summaries of the bill, paper/pens for handwriting
notes to legislators, and volunteers to point you in the right
direction.  Contact Heather Fazio if you'd like to volunteer for this
event.  Call (512) 825-9142 or click here to email her.

Remember:
Your Representative supported this legislation during the regular
session, and
Your Senator supported this legislation (unless his name is Whitmire)
up until the night that the DOJ threatened us with a domestic “no-fly
zone.”
