You can imagine how I felt yesterday, I suddenly remembered that it was my
son's birthday, and I hadn't even spoken to him. So I called and I called
and finally, he returned my call. Only to tell me that his former roommate
while in undergraduate school in Canada was now dead.

I can not imagine how Andrew's parents must now feel. Andrew was from
Colorado, and we don't have any contact information for them. Please share
my son's message as far and as widely as possible, in hopes that Andrew's
parents will know that their son's vitality and free spirit touched many
lives, including that of my own son and their friends.

I visited the house where Andrew and my son lived and even played board
games with them and their friends.

Here are my son's words, written much too soon, in memory of his close
friend, now living still, in the hearts of those he touched:

"On the life and times I shared with Andrew Wade"

One of the beautiful things about life is the opportunity it gives us to
meet people that forever change the way we live and experience our lives.
Andrew Wade was, and will always be, one of the people I will always be
thankful for meeting.

Our mutual love for the sport of soccer initially brought us together in
Vancouver, Canada at the University of British Columbia, and set a solid
foundation for our friendship. We later became roommates, and lived together
for nearly 2 years. Throughout these 2 years we philosophized about
ourselves, (women), society, and what we thought the purpose of all this
was. His experiences, interests, and knowledge expanded my grasp of what was
possible and helped me develop a better understanding of my own purpose.

Andrew was a great friend. Our friendship definitely had an element of
"bro-mance" to it. We did so many things together: the gym, concerts,
parties, movies, etc. Andrew always stayed in touch, and in the 2 years I
have lived in Washington D.C., he visited twice.

I always sensed a vibrant energy of exploration from Andrew that drove his
pursuit of everything life had to offer. Andrew was an avid traveler. He
believed traveling helps you think outside the box, and that experiencing
different cultures was beneficial in making us think about our own values.

During his time in India, his employer asked the employees to make a "brand
statement", a personal philosophy summed up in a few sentences. Andrew's
was: "And in the end it's not the years in your life that count. It's the
life in your years." Andrew truly lived a full life, and although I am sad
he is no longer here, I find some solace in the fact he left us living out
his ambition.

I send my condolences to Andrew's family, and hope they know they raised a
truly tremendous son whose life changed mine and many others for the better.
