Dear Lee,

The tax bill negotiations that we’ve alerted you to recently are now in the final stretch. Together, we have delivered over 200,000 messages to Congress about the importance of extending the renewable energy production tax credit (PTC) as part of the payroll tax bill.

But we cannot let up now! See the email below that I sent this morning to one of my Maryland Senators, Ben Cardin. It is essential that we all reach out again – immediately - to emphasize the urgency of the PTC extension. <http://act.awea.org/salsa/track.jsp?v=2&c=lRRh%2FLPxj5LynN1%2BUqedUD7lZ%2BeCg%2FfG>

The Congressional leadership and payroll tax committee members <http://act.awea.org/salsa/track.jsp?v=2&c=TZULpq5UymrynN1%2BUqedUD7lZ%2BeCg%2FfG> spent the weekend negotiating the contents of the payroll tax bill, but they have not yet come to a final agreement. This means that including the PTC extension in this bill is still a real possibility. Extending the PTC through this bill is our only near-term way to extend the credit.

Please contact your legislators today and remind them that for manufacturers in the wind industry, the PTC has already effectively expired. <http://act.awea.org/salsa/track.jsp?v=2&c=%2Fs9M9DYSPb%2FynN1%2BUqedUD7lZ%2BeCg%2FfG> Urge them to speak to their colleagues in the Congressional leadership and on the payroll tax committee about the urgency of including the PTC extension in the payroll tax bill.

Thank you in advance for reaching out to your legislators today.

Sincerely,

PS- Here's the letter I sent to my own U.S. Senator, Ben Cardin--- Send your own letter now. <http://act.awea.org/salsa/track.jsp?v=2&c=9yIjUY2OcNjynN1%2BUqedUD7lZ%2BeCg%2FfG>

Subject: Please Include PTC Extension in Payroll Tax Bill

Dear Senator Cardin,

As your constituent, I urge you, as part of the Payroll Tax Committee, to include the extension of the renewable energy production tax credit (PTC) in the payroll tax bill.

For manufacturers in the wind industry, the PTC has already effectively expired. The uncertainty of the PTC’s future has caused wind project developers to hold off on their plans to install wind projects in 2013 and American manufacturers to face the start of the year with no new orders. Layoffs have already begun. If Congress waits until the end of the year to extend the PTC,tens of thousands of American manufacturing jobs will already be lost – and they may not come back.

Currently, over 400 facilities across 43 states manufacture for the wind industry. The industry has leveraged up to $20 billion dollar per year of private investment in the American economy since 2008. Please signal to the wind industry that you are committed to providing the certainty that we need to continue to grow American manufacturing jobs and domestic energy investment by including the PTC extension in the payroll tax bill.

I appreciate your time and attention to this crucial issue.

Denise Bode
