Here's a report of what has happened or will take place this coming weekend at the four party conventions, and how you can help. Republican Convention this past weekend: Indy Texans members, who were delegates at the Republican Convention this weekend, found it all both annoying and interesting. It was annoying that the rank-and-file delegates were for I&R, but the platform committee, led by an "anti-I&R, minority rule" faction shut I&R out. That said, a vigorous floor fight on term limits (the rank- and-file were adamantly pro-term limits) and against the new business franchise tax (HB 3, one of the Governor's babies passed in the special session), made it apparent that the minority faction (Perry loyalists) in control of the Republican Party, are out of touch. The split within the party delegates was about 50%! That does not bode well for Rick Perry and does bode well for the Tough Grandma, now an independent who, as she said last week, "will die an independent -- but not anytime soon!" Strayhorn is an avid supporter of I&R, has promised to repeal of HB 3, and had her name on the lips of many of the delegates we spoke to. Thanks to those of you helped out: Lynn Foster, Martha Estes, Bruce Deramus, Russ Doyle, Jerry & Yvonne Pikulinksi, Marc Smith, Sudie Sartor, Byron and other members of the SA Toll Party. Democratic Convention in Ft. Worth this weekend: This coming weekend Indy Texan member and I&R leader, Eddy Williams of Dilley, Texas (way south of San Antonio), will be a delegate at the Democratic Convention in Ft. Worth. Starting on Friday, June 9th, at 9 am all the way through Saturday, June 10th at 2 pm, she will lead a petition drive to add an I&R plank to the Democratic Party platform. We'll need 30% of the delegates to sign to put it before the full convention. We need your help during any of those hours, including Friday evening hours -- you can go from hotel to hotel and schmooze with delegates. The convention is being held at the Ft.
