<DIV></DIV>I told Lea Mesa of WCW that I would send this out. I have also
talked to Bill Crosier and he is trying to schedule a meeting with Sheila
Jackson Lee. I agree -- unless Sheila calls the town hall meeting and puts
her staff to work on it, it was just done well by PAA.<BR>

to host one is a bit different than putting on a hearing ourselves. She hasn't

actions<BR></FONT><BR></DIV>Lea Mesa of the World Can't Wait asked that I
forward this to all of you. She and other local activists are proposing
local town hall impeachment events. We would like to see Rep. Sheila
Jackson Lee be convinced to hold one here. Which of you would be
interested in working on this?<BR> Madeleine<BR>Friends: <BR>
<P>In February, Howard Zinn <A
onclick="return top.js.OpenExtLink(window,event,this)"
href="http://progressive.org/mag_zinnl0207" target=_blank>wrote in The
Progressive</A>, "all we hear in the nation's capital, which is the source of
those catastrophes, is a whimper from the Democratic Party, muttering and
nattering about 'unity' and 'bipartisanship,' in a situation that calls for
bold action to immediately reverse the present course."<BR></P>
<P>Zinn said impeachment is up to the people, and made a specific call for
"<B>peoples' impeachment hearings</B>" all over the country. "This is
especially important given the timidity of the Democratic Party. Such hearings
would bypass Congress, which is not representing the will of the people, and
would constitute an inspiring example of grassroots democracy.<SPAN>
</SPAN>Impeachment hearings all over the country could excite and energize the
peace movement. They would make headlines, and could push reluctant members of
Congress in both parties to do what the Constitution provides for and what the
present circumstances demand: <B>the impeachment and removal from office of
George Bush and Dick Cheney</B>." <BR></P>
<P>Now is the time for the people to take decisive action!<SPAN>
</SPAN>George Bush has just arrogantly vetoed a funding bill that gave him all
the money he wants for the war <I>only because</I> it had a non-binding date
for removal of troops.<SPAN> </SPAN>Articles of impeachment have been
filed by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, and co-sponsors are signing on.<SPAN>
</SPAN>The <A onclick="return top.js.OpenExtLink(window,event,this)"
href="http://impeach07.org/" target=_blank>Impeach07.org</A> campaign brought
out thousands last week to spell it out.<SPAN> </SPAN><BR></P>
<P><U>Tuesday May 29 – Sunday June3</U>.<SPAN> </SPAN>In line with
Howard Zinn's proposal, we propose Town Hall style events where the people
challenge the Congress to act on impeachment.<SPAN> </SPAN>There will be
a special effort to hold these events in areas where Members of Congress are
on the House Judiciary Committee, and could hold hearings on impeachment
bills.<SPAN> </SPAN>These events can be framed as "discussions" or
"dialogues" on impeachment, particularly if that encourages members of
Congress to participate.<SPAN> </SPAN>They can also be speak-out formats
where people speak to why they think George Bush and Dick Cheney should be
impeached.</P>
<P>We will be doing national publicity for the co-ordinated events, which will
help draw many more people in.<SPAN> </SPAN><BR></P>
<P>If you don't choose to hold a town hall meeting, just pick a day that week
and go out in your community, or on the freeway, with "IMPEACH" signs and get
the message to the people.<SPAN> </SPAN>Reports indicate that when
people did this on Saturday April 28, they got very marked support from the
public. <BR></P>The people want impeachment.<SPAN> </SPAN>It's time for
us to lead and sweep this demand across the country. <BR><BR
