legislation has been. If you are looking for ideas, we suggest taking

<p> First let me express my gratitude for your work, for
speaking truth to power and for being a beacon of light in a dark time.
</p>
<p> Just as you have dedicated your life to journalistic
integrity, my
life's work has been in the field of education, researching what
children need to learn, grow, and thrive, and integrating that research
into my public school classroom. I am also the mother of a child who
is now in the fourth grade at our local public school. This gives me
unique insight into the damaging effects of the Federal education
legislation called "No Child Left Behind," or NCLB. </p>
<p> NCLB has been a disastrous intrusion into the life of
our schools, our
teachers, and our children. It has been lucrative for corporations
that make their fortune from developing standardized curriculum
materials and standardized tests. If you want to understand the
numerous outrages of this punitive and damaging legislation, they have
been well documented by a group of passionate, committed educators at <a

<p> I don't know which point to emphasize to you because
all are valid and
add up to an oppressive burden which has shifted the culture and
purpose of our schools away from learning to a sort of dogmatic skill
and drill environment which is dumbing down our society and greatly
diminishing this cornerstone of our democracy. The children I teach
are hungry for an education which can bring meaning and focus to their
lives today and not for some future date. </p>
<p> When you read our petition, I believe you will
understand why we need
your help in making our campaign to eliminate NCLB a national issue. I
implore you to join us in working to eliminate NCLB, save our public
schools, and restore our democracy! </p>
