Great company!<BR><BR><STRONG>Sunday May 27 Memorial Day
Observance.</STRONG><BR>The Houston chapters of Veterans for Peace, Military
Families Speak Out, and CodePINK are lead sponsers of a Memorial Day Observance,
May 27 to 29, to honor all casualties from the ongoing Iraq and Afghanistan
wars. <BR><BR><STRONG>This is a great event. All members should try to take time
to help setting up the flags, reading names, or visiting the memorial.
</STRONG><BR><BR>Volunteers are needed to place flags and read names beginning
at 10am Sunday, 27 May and until the over 3800 labeled flags are placed and
names read. Come anytime on the 27th to help or during the following two days to
view the flag memorial. <BR><BR>This event will take place at Hermann Circle Dr.
The display will include memorials to Iraq and Afghan civilian casualties, US
military casualties from Iraq, US military casualties from Afghanistan,
casualties from Texas, and a section for the over 100 veterans who have
committed suicide since returning from the Iraq or Afghanistan wars. For

happening with the Houston region environment? How bad is it? The people of
Houston suffer the ill effects day in and day out and seem unable to make their
voices heard by most elected officials. What can we do?</FONT></A></FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2><A name=1163386274><FONT color=#000000>Come to the
Environmental Summit on Sunday, June 10 at the University of Houston's Main
Campus to find out what's happening, who's working for the people of Houston,
what you can do, and how we can all work together.</FONT></A></FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2><A name=1163386274><FONT color=#000000>The event,
sponsored by the Harris County Democrats progressive organization and the Billie
Carr Institute, will feature a keynote by Houston Mayor Bill White and
introductory comments by well-known environmental activist, Jim Blackburn. In
addition to Dr. Stephen Klineberg of Rice University discussing survey research
about environmental opinions, a variety of environmental groups and political
groups will offer comments about environmental goals, issues and key challenges
in the near future.</FONT></A></FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2><A name=1163386274><FONT color=#000000>The event's
objectives are to broadly increase knowledge of environmental issues and
introduce organizations to political activists of Harris County and surrounding
areas. We hope to substantially increase interaction between people active in
environmental issues and partisan politics. Ultimately, we'd like to plan future
interactions for the coming election season.</FONT></A></FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2><A name=1163386274><FONT color=#000000>Houston
Region Sierra Club, GHASP (Galveston-Houston Association for Smog Prevention),
Mothers for Clean Air, Citizen's Environmental Coalition, AND Harris County
Democrats, Bay Area New Democrats (BAND), and other Democratic organizations are
expected to participate.</FONT></A></FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2><A name=1163386274><FONT
color=#000000>Organizations are encouraged to invite their members and to staff
tables with literature throughout the event in the main ballroom of UH's
University Center.</FONT></A></FONT></P>
