This has been, in effect, my argument in response to conservatives who criticize environmentalists as well as sound-byte environmentalists focusing on simplistic phrases like "Save The Planet" - my response has always been that "The planet doesn't need to be saved..."

If the human race manages to exterminate itself, the direction in which we seem to be moving, then the Earth will survive just fine, recover from our cancerous damage and go on to provide sustanance for a new generation of flora & fauna.

This weekend I saw another two or three TV shows about "mass extinction" by means of varous scenarios such as Asteroids From Space! or Giant Tsunamis! or Super-Volcanos!. I love those science programs about "What Killed The Dinosaurs" and "What Really Happened to Atlantis" or "Where Did The Maya Go?" At least one paleontologist or climatologist pointed out that a "nuclear winter"-type situation would last for a few decades or, at worst, a couple centuries, during which virtually all the larger fauna, including hummin' beans, would starve. After the restabilization of the climate another species would begin to evolve into the dominant life form.

Someday, an Archeologist whose ancestors evolved from cockroaches will dig up our bones and the wreckage of our skyscrapers and theorize about "How The Primates Went Extinct"

This article is extremely interesting and thought provoking. I think you’ll enjoy it. It is true that mankind is a blight on the rest of the planet. We need to change our ways and fast before we completely destroy ourselves. Even though the author says that the planet would be very boring if homosapiens were to disappear, it’s true that the planet would be much better off if we were to go extinct. This statement does give one pause…………
