Let me
please clarify at the outset that I am not personally a Libertarian. There
are issues I have with the Libertarians that will always be there, because my
political orientation is Leftist. But that said, I am looking practically
at the question of the war, and who represents authentic opposition to it.
Ron Paul is one of those who does. That is indisputable, however you and I
may disagree with him on other issues. Right now there is one and only one
issue that is of primary importance to us, if we wish to live a moral life, and
that is stopping the wholesale murder of people in the Middle East by the US
military and its allies. Ron Paul unquestionably represensts this
position. Now I am aware that there are a few others who do also.
And Cynthia McKinney is someone who, if she ran, would get my vote before Ron
Paul. But that is neigher her nor there at the moment. What I
believe we must look at now, ALL OTHER ISSUES ASIDE, is who is with us and who
is against us about stopping US military aggression. So Ron Paul is
someone I support, as is Cynthia. Among the Democrats, I favorably view
Dennis K (though I sometimes think he serves as a schil) and Mike Gravel.
I disagree with both of them about some issues, but will support their striving
for their party's nomination because they both oppose the war against
Iraq. It is really that simple. If we introduce other issues into
the conversation, we create division. I am for unity.

quibble greatly with your definition of a major contender for a major party

tolerance and all those other things Paul doesn't talk about very much. A
country led by Ron Paul is a country devoid of a "safety net" for old and
poor, a country where corporations are free to run over citizens in the name
of free enterprise, and a country where there are no restrictions on what
happens in the marketplace. You call it libertarianism. I call it an excuse
for the right wing and the big corporations to have their way with our
country.

I think a lot of people are being taken for a ride on this

regressive, not progressive.

Alyssa Burgin
