<DIV>Thanks for the feedback, Cheryl. Great to hear about CE passing in SD 6! I
am curious about the other resolutions you all passed when you have the
time and energy to tell us. </DIV>
<DIV>Was also curious about how many of the 125 resolutions your committee
received were actually passed on to the floor for a vote. A member of the
resolutions committee at SD 7 told me they received over 200 but only passed 20
on and eliminated the rest. Kind of a shame to eliminate so many but on the
other hand it took us over two hours (until 9:30pm) to consider the 20 we got,
so if we had received them all we would probably still be there - at least
those who stayed for this process, since I would estimate only between 100 and
200 stayed out of a total of over 2,000. </DIV>
<DIV>And after they finished the 20 from the committee the chair asked
if there were any resolutions from the floor, and about a dozen people raised
their hand, so I left at that point. Can't imagine how anyone else had the
energy to keep it up. </DIV>
<DIV>This election has been amazing, and it ain't over yet. This democracy
business is pretty messy and definitely not for the faint of heart! </DIV>

<DIV>My apologies if any of you receive this response more than once.</DIV>

<DIV>In SD 6, the CE resolutions was received from at least 21
precincts. Of the approx. 125 resolutions received, the next highest
number of duplicate resolutions received was the Abolition of the Death
Penalty and that was turned in by 5 precincts in SD 6. Both breezed through
the committee at the SD and were passed easily on the floor. There were
no comments from the floor on CE. On the death penalty
abolishment, there may have been a few comments from the floor against
abolition. One amendment was offered from the floor (which was
turned down at the floor) that the death penalty apply only to public
officials. I think that gave everyone a laugh. I don't know
if it was offered in seriousness. A precinct resolution which was
handwritten also had the wording about public-official exception but it had
been marked out at the precinct level. On the floor the abolition
resolution was amended, but with the addition of two "Whereas's" in support of
abolition.</DIV>

<DIV>I chaired the resolutions committee. It was a long day (and a long
week of preparation) but was fun and amazing and inspiring to know that so
many people care about progressives issues. We can't empower our
candidates to carry out these issues because the corporation money needed to
get them elected has hobbled them into blocking our will. Let's
keep working on CE to take the corporations out of the loop so that our votes
are more important than raising money.</DIV>

<DIV>I wll try to send out a list of the other resolutions that passed in SD 6
when I get time later this week.</DIV>

anyone have information that we can pass on to TCAN about how the CE

SD 7 here and two others (8 and 23) in the Dallas area, so it looks
promising. Thanks!</FONT></BLOCKQUOTE>
