<div>With the passing of Ester King, we lost a great leader, teacher,
and activist who had dedicated his life to helping others and who was
an inspiration to so many people in Houston.</div>

<div>As Gloria has stated so well: "His life as a fighter for the
oppressed was exemplary, the knowledge and history of struggle that he
shared was all-encompassing, and his dedication for all working people
unparalleled."</div>

Funeral arrangements set for Houston icon Ester L. King
(1943-2011)</b></blockquote>
<blockquote type="cite" cite> </blockquote>
<blockquote type="cite" cite>Ester L. King who transitioned to the
realm of the Holy Egun (Ancestors) on Thursday, September 1, 2011 will
be memorialized this weekend. Mr. King is widely viewed as an
icon in the social justice arena. He was a participant, leader
and eyewitness to much of Houston's Black Power, Civil Rights and
Human Rights struggles for over forty years.</blockquote>
