To these extremists in Congress, facts don’t matter. Despite the fact that <strong>refugees undergo a rigorous screening process that can take up to THREE YEARS</strong>, these so-called American leaders refuse to even consider allowing refugees -- <em>the overwhelming majority of whom are women and children under the age of 12</em> -- from entering the United States.<span style='font-size:7.5pt'>(2)</span> The screening process is so painstaking that only 1,999 Syrian refugees have been admitted into the U.S.. That’s just 0.05% of all the refugees.<span style='font-size:7.5pt'>(3)</span> Also, <strong>not one terrorist attack has been committed in U.S. by a refugee.</strong><span style='font-size:7.5pt'>(4)</span> Despite these facts, these members of Congress are using our vulnerability to stoke fear for political gain.<br><br><strong><a href="http://act.couragecampaign.org/sign/SyrianRefugees/?t=4&akid=2332.1067118.wsuvLi">JOIN US: Tell your U.S. Senators to honor the immortal words on the Statue of Liberty and vote “NO” on any anti-refugee legislation.</a></strong><br><br>Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has started a fast-track process to bring up the anti-refugee legislation -- House Resolution (H.R.) 4038 -- passed by the House of Representatives with a veto-proof majority last Thursday.<span style='font-size:7.5pt'>(5)</span> <strong>If it now passes the Senate, it could slam the door on refugees and open the floodgates for more anti-refugee legislation.</strong><span style='font-size:7.5pt'>(6)</span><br><br>And this hateful, anti-Muslim fear mongering is spiraling out of control beyond Washington. <strong>Presidential candidate Donald Trump wants to create a database that tracks Muslim Americans and require Muslims Americans to wear identification badges</strong>.<span style='font-size:7.5pt'>(7)</span> Another presidential candidate -- Chris Christie -- doesn’t even want the United States to provide refuge for orphans under the age of five!<span style='font-size:7.5pt'>(8)</span><br><br><strong>This is the same dangerous line of thinking that leads to hate crimes and wars.</strong> The same tainted logic that led the United States to close its borders to many Jewish refugees during World War II, including children like Anne Frank.<span style='font-size:7.5pt'>(9)</span> By passing H.R. 4038 and other anti-refugee legislation, we're letting terrorists win by tossing aside our values due to panic and paranoia.<br><br><strong><a href="http://act.couragecampaign.org/sign/SyrianRefugees/?t=5&akid=2332.1067118.wsuvLi">CLICK HERE to urge your U.S. Senators to vote “NO” on any legislation that would halt or otherwise interrupt the acceptance of refugees into the U.S.</a></strong><br><br>Throughout history, refugees have played a central role in the American story.
