<div>On Friday, Publish What You Pay US found out that the House of Representative's Financial Services committee will be considering a bill submitted by Representative Bill Huizenga.  <br></div>

<div>This bill (H.R. 4519) that would repeal Section 1504 of Dodd-Frank in its entirety.  <br></div>
<div><br></div>
<div>The elimination of section 1504 would remove the requirement that oil, gas, and mining companies listed on U.S. stock exchanges publicly disclose payments made to governments. <br></div>
<div><br></div>
<div>Section 1504, known as the Cardin-Lugar provision, is a key piece of legislation that advances efforts to curb international corruption. <br></div>
<div><br></div>
<div>The corruption that surrounds the extractive industries not only distorts development, entrenches poverty, and exacerbates inequality but also corrodes the rule of law, undercuts democratic governance and undermines respect for human rights.</div>
