Harris County AFL-CIO Council, December 10th International Human Rights Day - STREET HEAT Day of Action to Restore Workers’ Freedom to Form Unions and Bargain Collectively

  • Transport Workers Union of America (TWU), Local 582
  • TWU’s School Bus Drivers in Cy-Fair ISD and Humble ISD

Let’s Stand with these Workers!

Continental Airlines’ Fleet Service Workers and the Bus Drivers of Cy-Fair and Humble ISD want a Union.  The Transportation Workers Union and these Workers need our support.

December 10th is International Human Rights Day and is our National Day of Action to Restore Workers’ Freedom to Form Unions and Bargain Collectively.  Our Houston event in support of TWU will be just one of many events held across the country by workers and their Unions.  The Employee Free Choice Act that is now before Congress will protect workers who want to form a union and bargain a contract with their employer.  Unfortunately, under our present labor laws 25% of workers are fired for doing so or threatened with a plant closing and 1/3 never achieve first contact.

We need to turn out on Saturday, December 10th (you will be voting in the run-off on that same day) at 10:00 a.m. at the Mickey Leland Federal Bldg, 1919 Smith St., Downtown Houston, Wear your Union colors and bring your Union banners.  Show your support for workers.

Something to eat or drink, or your voice or a musical instrument
(one of the above is plenty)
Or just bring yourself.  Feel free to bring friends, too.  We never have to worry about enough food with a pot-luck party.
Bring flyers, signs, etc. for candidates or for upcoming events for your favorite organizations.  We'll have a literature table.
