Event Description:

Visiting Houston Radical History:

Come hear Lenwood Johnson, from the Free Man’s Neighborhood Association, talk of the plight, history, and current struggle of Allen Parkway Village and Freedmen’s Town. Gentrification continues to threaten these most significant parts of Houston's black cultural heritage.

"Immediately west of downtown Houston lies the city's oldest Black community. This community is commonly known as the Fourth Ward, but its original name is Freedmen's Town, given by freed slaves who settled it."

6 pm at Sedition Books, 4816 Old Spanish Trail (just west of MLK), Houston 77021
