US paying Iraqi press to run favourable stories

Our tax $ at work promoting more propaganda in Iraq - terrific. It's
bad enough that our tax $ are being used for the US to setup and run
our own news organizations (run by the US military, I'm sure those
outlets are objective - NOT!) in Iraq, now we find out they're
publishing articles and passing them off as "independent media" to
other Iraq / foreign publications with OUR tax $ and in OUR name!

This is in direct violation of US law I might add - to promote /
distribute and coerce the media. Apparently this is more important to
this administration than to worry about the now 50 million of our
citizens who don't have healthcare or hey.... I'm sure we could have
used it to pay for those billion $ of cuts to Medicaid and student
financial aid dollars instead.

This is termed "Information Operations Task Force" - here is the
proof right from the US House of Representatives website
http://www.house.gov/hasc/openingstatementsandpressreleases/
107thcongress/02-02-06myers.html

The second aspect of information operations highlighted by the Afghan
campaign is the importance of a well-integrated information
campaign. To that end, the Department of Defense (DOD) activated an
information operations task force focused on winning the information
campaign against global terrorism. This task force is committed to
developing, coordinating, deconflicting, and monitoring the delivery
of timely, relevant, and effective messages to targeted international
audiences.

The official would not disclose which newspapers and radio stations
are under U.S. control, saying that naming the organizations would
put their employees at risk of insurgent attacks.

ranks right on up there with the Pentagon producing VNRs and feeding
it to the public as if it were "investigative" journalism.

What really makes me angry, is that if they truly wanted to sway
public opinion in their favor, they would use that money to reopen the Faluja
hospital they closed !!!!

 A**holes !!!!
