Join thousands of others in the Houston area, who value what MLK stood for, at the ORIGINAL Martin Luther King, Jr. parade, in downtown Houston.

This is the parade that was originated 30 years ago by Ovide Duncantelle, tht is coordinated by the Black Heritage Society, and which remains true to MLK's legacy.

(The other so-called MLK parade, organized by Charles Stamps, is the one that is filled with ROTC groups and other militaristic entries.  It is also on the same day, but don't be confused even though it has a bunch of corporate sponsors.)

Friedman looks at various "green" technologies - hydroelectric, solar, wind, and nuclear power, hybrid, electric, and hydrogen fuel-cell cars, clean-coal, biofuels, and energy-conservation methods - being adopted by American businesses and families today, to reduce the output of the greenhouse gases and help ensure greater political stability throughout the world.

Shirley has been a vegan activist & chef since 1984 and a vegetarian since 1961. She co-founded the Lone Star Vegetarian Network and co-founded with Janice Blue the Go Vegan Texas radio program on KPFT Pacifica Radio in Houston. Her presentation can be described as inspirational and transformation -- something all social justice activists should hear. Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world". The rally in Bell Park will include speakers, musicians, and spoken word artists.

Veterans' Day Parade

The Veterans for Peace (VFP) of Chapter 12, Houston will be marching in the Veteran’s Day Parade through downtown Houston on Sunday, November 11. The parade will last from approximately 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM. VFP would like a strong turnout behind our flag and banner to show the citizens of Houston that we are pro peace in an unprecedented time of war and turmoil. Please support our cause and join us. Signs like "Support the VA, Not the War", Support the Troops - Bring Them Home Now" are welcome. We got a pretty positive response to these kinds of signs last year, even with the pro-military crowd there.

On Friday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m. Artist Rescue Mission (ARM) and the Station Museum initiate Project Iraq with the film Iraq in Fragments.

Project Iraq is a yearlong project to raise awareness about Iraqi art and culture, and to render assistance to artists affected by the war. Presentations about the project will be made by artist Gertrude Barnstone and Jame Harithas. The evening features the film Iraq in Fragments, a film of modern day Iraq told by Iraqis living in war and occupation, nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary, and winner of the Sundance Awards for Best Director and Best Cinematography.
