Subject: Free training for emergencies

Dear friends Every year Houston faces the prospect of a major emergency with the return of hurricane season. We face other threats as well. You have an opportunity to take a 24 hour course that will maximize your prospects of surviving such events with minimum risk and discomfort.

I am signed up and I suggest that you consider doing so too. We need a few more to get over the 20 person minimum which must be met by this weekend.Read the details below.

Subject:CERT class beginning January 14

Hello. You may or may not have signed up for the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) class but we have until this weekend to get a class together.

You should know that we do not have a quorum for the CERT class beginning January 14, in the Heights, but everybody has been busy with the holidays. Please get back to me or to Ken (see attached letterKen 832-754-1202 orkotolo at sbcglobal.net) as soon as you can. Ken has put a lot of effort into bringing this class together and we both want to see it happen.

Husbands and wives should sign up because 40% of emergencies occur when the husband is not available to put out the fire, turn off the gas or care for a broken bone until the professionals arrive. CERT will not teach you to be a firefighter or EMT. It will teach you what to do until they arrive and how you need to help (or not help) them when they do arrive. You do not need to be able-bodied to profit from CERT. (Disabled people have taken the training so that they will know what to expect in an emergency and to allow others to learn how to help them!)

The reason we need an answer by this weekend is that multiple professional speakers have to be scheduled, as well as Fire Department trucks, emergency equipment and other pieces that have to come together for the series of classes to take place.

A reminderCERT is a cooperative effort of Homeland Security, Harris County Office of Emergency Management and the City of Houston.

P.S. Its not too early to tell you that the magic word is Cactus.
