NAACP and Rice Young Democrats Sponsor Voting Rights Forum at Rice University
Event Description:
The Rice Chapters of NAACP and the Young Democrats invite you to our first annual forum on voting rights Monday, October 23rd, 2006 at 7:00 PM in Duncan Hall’s McMurtry Auditorium at Rice University. Our goal for this forum is to promote dialogue among the students and faculty of Rice University about the issues concerning voting rights.
Panelists confirmed at this time include:
- James Pierre, candidate for Harris County Clerk
- Borris Miles, Representative District 146
- Pokey Anderson, Voting Rights Activist
- Dr. Dan Wallach, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Rice University and Associate Director of the Center for Correct, Usable, Reliable, Auditable, and Transparent Elections (ACCURATE)
- Dr. Robert Stein, Lena Gohlman Fox Professor of Political Science at Rice University
- James Robertson, Chairman of the Black Dems
As you know, the gubernatorial elections are soon approaching, and we would very much like to empower individuals with the knowledge to make a sound choice on Election Day. We do understand that voting rights is one of many issues that one must consider in choosing a candidate, but we also understand that by discussing this issue, we are one step closer to mobilizing the students of Rice University to become more informed citizens.
Duncan Hall is building #20 pictured in blue on the map below. The closest visitor parking is available in the Founder's court, accessible via entrance #2. There is limited free visitor parking at the stadium on a first come first serve basis and shuttle buses are provided.
