Neighborhood Tax Centers: Volunteer Training Part 1 and 2

Dec 2 2008 - 5:30pm
Dec 4 2008 - 9:30pm

Event Description:

Neighborhood Tax Centers: Volunteer Training – December 2 and 4

Provide economic relief for working families who earn less than $45,000 a year. The Neighborhood Tax Center program, administered by Neighborhood Centers Inc., impacts families by helping them claim the Earned Income Credit — the nation’s largest anti-poverty program that is buried in the tax code.  This is a tax credit that working class families have earned, but generally pay high rates to commercial tax preparers to claim or not claim at all. During the 2009 tax season, Neighborhood Tax Centers need 500 volunteers to prepare 15,000 returns for working families, which will bring in $20 million in refunds and credits for those families so they can meet their basic needs.

  • Learn how to prepare simple tax returns in 8 hours of training
  • Work directly with families who need help preparing tax returns
  • Commit to volunteer 36 hours between January & April (just three hours/week)
  • Become certified as an IRS volunteer tax preparer
  • Prepare taxes using a commercial software program provided for free to Neighborhood Centers Inc. by the IRS

Attend the 8 hour training from 5:30 to 9:30 on Dec. 2 and Dec. 4. You must attend Part 1 on Dec. 2 before attending Part 2 on Dec. 4. Advance registration is required. Visit our website,, to sign up for the trainings and to see other training dates and times.
