Greenwatch TV Wednesday 9-10 PM: Guerrero Oro
Event Description:
Gold mining blossoms in the state of Guerrero in southern Mexico.
How do indigenous people feel about it? Are they being respected? Is their livelihood being threatened? Google Guerrero Gold and all you get is mining prospect reports. Learn more, another side, tonight
Harris County Green Party has been listening to local activists Henry and Alma Cooper, Bryan and Juan Parras for a fair number of weeks about this issue. At last we had the opportunity to hear some activists from on the ground in Mexico and around town at our monthly meeting Monday, and GWTV hooked up to do a show at the last minute.
Mountain top removal, arsenic in the waters of the streams and lakes, community organizers going missing, all the worst. And the words "Free Trade" come into the picture. Money comes before people and human needs yet again.
Tune in to Channel 17 if you get cable inside the city limits (or if not Comcast, another channel, check the website listed, or http://www.hmstv.org)
